About Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz

Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz, founder of admissionpossible.com, is an award-winning author, speaker and professional counselor who has successfully helped thousands of students select and get admitted to the colleges of their choice. Based on her more than 20 years of experience in the field, Marjorie has written an incredible guidebook full of tips for every stage of the process. Admission Possible: The "Dare to Be Yourself" Guide for Getting into the Best Colleges for You, will be available from Sourcebooks in April 2012.

Hansen Shaevitz is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and Independent Educational Consultant’s Association (IECA) and a Unigo Expert Network columnist. She is a former member of Stanford University’s Parents’ Board and chair of the Advisory Council for Stanford’s Institute for Women & Gender. She spent twelve years as a trustee for La Jolla Country Day School.

After completing a master’s degree in counseling psychology at Stanford University, she was orientation officer at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, a federally sponsored educational/research association that fosters relations among Asian, South East Asian, Pacific Islander, and American peoples. She then moved to Stanford as a member of the Dean of Students staff. Hansen Shaevitz also directed the College Re-Entry Program for Adults at the University of California, San Diego.

Co-author of So You Want to Go Back to School (McGraw-Hill), she also authored the best selling books The Confident Woman (Harmony/Random House) and The Superwoman Syndrome (Warner Books).
